Paradoxical embolism in Ebstein's anomaly.
A 26-year-old man with Ebstein's anomaly had cerebellar infarction due to paradoxical embolism. Ebstein's anomaly is characterized by a downward displacement of the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle due to anomalous attachment of the tricuspid leaflets. Echocardiography is the method of choice to diagnose Ebstein's anomaly on its own or in association with other heart defects. Paradoxica...

Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart disease. Paradoxical embolism (PDE) may occur in EA due to associated atrial septal defect (ASD). An 18 year old male with EA presented with left lower limb ischemia due to PDE to the limb. No features of cerebral embolism was present. PDE is a potential complication of EA. High level of awareness is needed for early diagnosis of PDE in EA to sa...

INTRODUCTION Ebstein's anomaly is a benign and stable congenital heart disease for asymptomatic patients. Despite a low incidence of Ebstein's anomaly (EA), patients' quality of life can be badly affected by EA without positive surgical intervention. Especially EA is associated with other congenital heart disease, such as the atrial septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and arterial embolism exc...

متن کاملParadoxical embolism.
Paradoxical embolization of venous thrombus into the abdominal aortic bifurcation has been diagnosed by means of aortography. Lower limb phlebothrombosis accounting for the embolus formation has been demonstrated by phlebography. Arterial embolectomy and venous thrombectomy were successfully performed. Recovery was complete without sequelae.
